Biodiversity

Biodiversity refers to the diversity of all life on our planet, from genes and species to entire ecosystems. In the oceans, it is the basis for healthy food chains, stable habitats, and resilience to environmental changes such as climate change and ocean acidification. A decline in biodiversity threatens the long-term ecological functioning of marine environments and the sustainable use of marine resources.
