Dykes

Dykes are man-made embankments that run alongside coasts, rivers and lakes, protecting neighbouring areas from flooding and storm surges. As part of technical coastal protection, they usually consist of stabilised earth covered in grass. In response to climate change, modern dykes are being raised and widened to withstand rising sea levels.
