Climate research involves investigating the interactions between the land, the oceans and the atmosphere. At its core, the subject deals with material cycles, such as the carbon cycle, and their influence on the climate. With regard to the oceans, climate research analyses how they slow down climate change by acting as carbon sinks, as well as the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems. Therefore, marine and climate research are closely linked.
