Plastic

Plastic is a man-made material produced from fossil fuels (such as crude oil) on a huge scale worldwide, often for short-lived products such as packaging. Large quantities of plastic regularly enter the environment in various ways, polluting coasts and oceans. Because it is so long-lasting, plastic persists for decades, threatening marine organisms that mistake it for food or become entangled in it.
