Corals

Corals are marine cnidarians that build coral reefs by producing calcareous skeletons. These ecosystems are among the most species-rich on Earth, providing a habitat for around a quarter of all marine species. However, corals are extremely sensitive to environmental changes. Rising water temperatures, ocean acidification and eutrophication are having an impact on them. Without targeted conservation efforts, we risk losing these key species - a loss that would have profound ecological and socio-economic consequences.
