Microplastics

Microplastics are tiny particles of plastic measuring less than five millimetres in size. They are formed when larger pieces of plastic decompose in the ocean, or they come from cosmetics, clothing, and tyre abrasion. These particles are barely visible, yet they are widespread — even in the deep sea. Many marine animals ingest microplastics, which has an impact on the human food chain.
