Marine pollutants

Marine pollutants are substances of a chemical, biological or physical nature that are introduced by humans, endangering the marine ecosystem. Examples include toxic chemicals, microplastics, oil and wastewater. These pollutants enter the oceans through industry, agriculture, shipping and other activities. They threaten marine life and disrupt food webs. In the long term, they can also pose a threat to human health by contaminating seafood and edible fish.
