Law of the sea

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is the legal framework for marine management. This convention obliges states to cooperate at the international, European and national levels to protect the marine environment. This requirement is supported by other international agreements and regional conventions. However, this has so far been insufficiently implemented, for various reasons.
