Deep-sea mining

Global consumption of raw materials has increased significantly in recent decades. To meet the demand for metals such as nickel, copper and cobalt, deep-sea mining is being considered more and more as a potential solution. This form of mining targets deep-sea deposits, particularly manganese nodules, massive sulphides, and iron-manganese crusts. However, while supporters regard these resources as indispensable, critics warn of potential unknown ecological consequences.
