Underwater noise
Underwater noise refers to man-made noise in the ocean, for example from shipping traffic, construction work for offshore wind farms or military activities. This noise can interfere with the communication and orientation of marine life, such as whales and dolphins, which rely on sound. Long-term exposure can lead to stress, disorientation and physical harm. The aim of noise protection concepts and legal regulations is to reduce underwater noise.
