Ocean dumping

'Ocean Dumping' refers to the intentional disposal of waste in the oceans, including dredged material, sewage sludge, and historically, munitions and chemicals. Large quantities of warfare agents were particularly dumped in the North and Baltic Seas after the Second World War. These contaminated sites decay on the seabed, releasing harmful substances that endanger marine life and ecosystems. Today, dumping is strictly regulated and permitted only to a limited extent.
