Restoration of ecosystems

Healthy ecosystems have a higher biodiversity and store large amounts of CO₂, making them important allies in the fight against climate change. However, many ecosystems are severely impaired or even destroyed. But there is hope: ecosystems can be restored. This can even be done in the sea. One way to do this is by replanting seagrass meadows. Such measures are costly, though, and it is rarely possible to fully restore a destroyed coral reef or deforested mangrove forest.
